Reflections: Search Techniques

These are the search strategies that have most currently experimented with.

I am learning to appreciate the successive fraction technique. At first, the concept was somewhat difficult to comprehend. With practice, it is now my preferred search option. You begin with a broad search, then you apply restrictions that eventually limit your hits to entries that you are interested in.

Information Power

I was referred to a great book by a fellow librarian within our district. The title is, Information Power Building Partnerships for Learning. This book does a great job of outlining the information literary standards for student learning and providing guidance for new and experienced librarians to meet those targets. I highly recommend this title. It is published the American Library Association.

Internet Site

The American Association of School Librarians is the home site for the AASL organization that addresses the issues and needs of school librarians. It is a great resource for school librarians to receive training and information about our profession.

This article was puclished in a 2006 report that looks at 16 states that have been studied and results prove that, school library media centers can contribute to improved achievement. I am constantly looking for articles that support school libraries and provide data that show libraries can improve student achievement. A venn diagram is shown on the sixth page of this article. The diagram shows the relationship between the school, the physical library, and the library to yield student success.
